JACKSON: Customarily, I close out the interview by asking for some recommendations. What comics do you guys keep up with? What are some of your favorites? |
LEMMO: Girls with Slingshots, Dr. McNinja, Wapsi Square, and check out Joe and Monkey's return from hiatus. | |
ARIC: I love Nedroid, Scary Go Round, Pictures for Sad Children, Hark, a Vagrant!, and Overcompensating the most. |

Great interview, plus the ending is hilarious. I see that the issue of the creators 'winging it' has even cropped up here. I think the problem lies with the fact that comments from readers has influenced the flow of the comic a few times in the past, and some may take this to imply that the creators are just going with the flow. Lemmo and Aric need to prove beyond a shred of doubt that Blank It is thoroughly scripted, maybe by inserting elements that seem insignificant now but turn out to play a huge role later on, for example, or tie together some of the seemingly random elements they've introduced already, or just live with the opinions that they've got a meandering storyline. I'm enjoying the ride, either way.
Nice work sir. Keep it up.
We don't take reader suggestions for the story. We also have no interest in proving that the story is planned out. It is a fact that it is planned out, but that fact has no bearing on the story itself. If readers have suggested things and they have happened in the comic, it is either a coincidence or a good prediction on the reader's behalf.
As we've said before, Aric and I are telling a story. Everyone is more than welcome to enjoy it with us, but the story is ours to tell.

@spearr: Why do they need to prove that it's planned? Even if they're just winging it they're doing an excellent job of it.
Also, it's pretty easy to create some subtle element which may or may not pan out later. I do that crap in my (completely made up as I go along and therefore terrible) comic all the time, just to give myself more options for when I run out of ideas.
